Recovering from a software launch mistake

March 1st, 2007 by Robert

It can be a common trap for software developers to try to get something just right before taking it to market. This is admirable, but can lead to never getting the thing done and out there making money for you.

Well, last night I was working on the user interface for Luxor when it finally hit me that I was trying way to hard to get the functionality I wanted too soon. I didn’t want to give up on it because I don’t like to quit on something that I know can work but am just having trouble with. However, the non-techie in me said to put it off for another day and get something more simple that just works. It might not be as cool or gee-wiz but it will get the job done, not look bad and allow me to progress forward with launching the product.

So, within an hour I had started from scratch on the UI and had a working mockup running. I need to plug in the visuals (graphics and such), make it look nice and then finish off a few functionality pieces that have to be in place and I should be ready to get this thing in the hands of the public.

I can’t wait…
