More beef on Technorati

Over on the Net Business Blog, Matt Coddington has a post called Technorati is a Joke which is a little harsher than my recent post Is Technorati really useful?. My post was more on the usability and general helpfulness of Technorati while Matt’s criticizes their ranking algorithm which ironically I think is one thing that really makes Technorati a viable service.

Whether or not Technorati updates their algorithm, I still question the overall usefulness of their site beyond rankings. Not long ago their lead developer left to join Google and they seem to be losing the blog search war as well.

I’m not trying to doom and gloom them, however I do wonder if another more blogger friendly service will come along? The blogger market is pretty big now, with Technorati, Bloglines, BlogCatalog and a variety of other services all vying for bloggers attention. Some are search engines, others aggregators and yet others are more community focused. What I would like to see is a service that truly helps bloggers promote themselves as well as promote their fellow bloggers.

When will this service come along? What would it look like?
