Code name Luxor

February 22nd, 2007 by Robert

Project ‘B’ is now going to be referenced as code name ‘Luxor’. Why a code name? Well, giving it a code name gives me something to reference while I decide on the final product name and secure the domain name as well. Why Luxor? I’m a fan of Egyptology and the Luxor casino and hotel in Vegas is just plain cool…

The Background

Like a lot of good startups, my idea for Luxor came about from my own frustrations and wishes. It will be a web application geared towards the blogging community and started out as a single vertical application. However I quickly realized that the needs of that vertical were not unique, so it will be more encompassing that my original plans.

Without giving away too much too soon, Luxor will be built to serve the blogging community in a variety of ways. Over the next few days I’ll go into some specifics and the reasonings behind each.

When Will It Launch?

As I mentioned before, I’m much closer than I thought I was. Most of what I have left to do is secure the domain, tidy up the user interface and go with it. So with that in mind I’ll probably do a private beta in the next couple of weeks, after I do some more extensive testing on my own.

Changing Focus

I mentioned previously that about project ‘A’ and project ‘B’. Well, after some consideration, I’m going to put project ‘A’ on the back burner for a while. That project is far more involved and would take a lot of time to get ready. B, now Luxor, is more achievable and at the moment far more interesting to me.

More To Come

Stay tuned, I’ll be releasing more information and asking you for some feedback!

Recovering from a software launch mistake at A Mogul To Be

[...] Well, last night I was working on the user interface for Luxor when it finally hit me that I was trying way to hard to get the functionality I wanted too soon. I didn’t want to give up on it because I don’t like to quit on something that I know can work but am just having trouble with. However, the non-techie in me said to put it off for another day and get something more simple that just works. It might not be as cool or gee-wiz but it will get the job done, not look bad and allow me to progress forward with launching the product. [...]
